Inverurie Health And Care Hub

Inverurie, Aberdeenshire

Central to the design is creating and environment which is friendly, welcoming, inviting and effortless to use – a place that makes good use natural daylight, giving a feeling of being airy and bright. The use of courtyards ensures the building maintains good connectivity to outside space, and where possible, exploits views onto green areas.

The accommodation and services provided on each floor has been carefully considered and developed through consultation with the building users and wider stakeholder groups. Each floor can be accessed via a central public stair and lift that rise from the main entrance through a double height void which maintains an ease of wayfinding and clear views between the different levels.

The ground floor accommodation groups together the GP consulting, CHP consulting and diagnostic services (part) and 4-bed Community Maternity Unit (CMU). CHP consulting, midwifery and X-ray services are provided centrally on the ground floor, with the balance of CHP accommodation provided on the first floor. The Community Maternity Unit (CMU) makes up the balance of ground floor accommodation.

The first floor accommodation groups together the balance of CHP consulting (Podiatry, Cardiology, Speech and Language, Audiology, and Physiotherapy) and the GP support accommodation (administration, library, meeting rooms, and Community Nursing Teams). Shared support accommodation for all building users (staff room, changing areas, etc.) are also provided on the first floor.

The design strives to achieve a modern building which is respectful of its setting and adjacent listed buildings. The use of smooth white render and white facing block has been proposed to reflect the character of the retained Grade B Listed hospital buildings. These will age well and maintain the overall contextual setting of the site (white pavilion buildings set in a landscape setting).
