Pizza Express

Caberstone House, Belmont Street, Aberdeen

The development involved forming a fast food restaurant and take away within the restricted confines of a listed building site – one of the oldest in Belmont Street. Barrier free access throughout the public areas of the premises was essential. This involved the reconstruction of the internal stair and the insertion of a glass clad lift. A second stair was also constructed for fire escape.

Internally the accommodation is provided over five levels with public access to four of these. Access is at street level with the main restaurant being at upper ground and first floor level. Kitchens, stores and facilities are in the basement with offices and staff on the second floor. A fully glazed extension was provided at upper ground floor level with fire rated glazing giving views over Union Terrace Gardens. Externally the building was refurbished while at street level timber and glazed doors and screens replaced earlier false timber pilasters / cladding.
