This project was brought about to support the enhancement of Early Years Facilities on the Park Nursery site within Alloa, extending the existing facility to provide accommodation catering for 146 nursery places

The new accommodation extends south from the existing nursery play space as a single storey volume with a pitched roof and overhanging eaves in a c shaped configuration around the new playground, with massing carefully considered to respect the scale of the retained nursery and surrounding environment.

The nursery was designed to achieve an open plan layout incorporating a series of sub-zones capable of dealing with different age groups and activities, with support spaces being directly accessed from the play area. The open plan play spaces feature double height zones with exposed trusses, reflecting the feature play space of the existing nursery, and large sliding glazed doors, ensuring good connection between inside and outside play spaces, and offering views towards Alloa and the Ochill hills beyond. The play also spaces benefit from a shallow plan with windows on each elevation and in-plane rooflights to create a light internal environment.
